Milestones

Tom Gorman ‘64 of North Platte retired as the Mid-Plains Community College Area’s dean of economic development and training this summer. Gorman dedicated 41 years to growing the college’s non-credit adult education classes, according to a news release from the institution.

John McGary ‘72 was inducted to the Nebraska Scholastic Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame this summer. He has coached the Tri County Trojans of DeWitt since the fall of 1972.

Craig Pease ‘78 retired this summer after 23 years as superintendent of Ashland-Greenwood Public Schools.

Greg Sanchez ‘83 was recently inducted to the Grand Island Little Theatre Hall of Fame. Sanchez has been involved with the theatre’s 20 shows of the past 16 years.

Dr. Jason Funk ‘94 has begun practicing chiropractic care in Rushville.

Cody Assmann ‘07 has been hired as a social studies teacher at Garden County High School at Oshkosh. He also is serving as an assistant football and girls’ basketball coach.

Dr. Travis Dickey ’07 has begun practicing at Rushville’s new dentist office and dental implant center, Horizon West Dental.

John ‘08 and Amy ‘09 Strand have new occupations in southwest Nebraska. John is the new high school math teacher for Cambridge Public Schools. Amy has been hired as a physical therapist at Tri Valley Physical Therapy at Arapahoe.

Marianne Griffiths ‘10 has been hired as a staff accountant for Fred A. Lockwood & Co. which has offices in Scottsbluff, Chadron and Mullen.

Tendai Gambiza ‘11 has been hired as a staff accountant for Fred A. Lockwood & Co., which has offices in Scottsbluff, Chadron and Mullen.

Amy Harrison ‘11 is the new high ability learning teacher at Gothenburg High School.

Karen Prewitt ‘11 joined the staff of Ainsworth Community Schools. She is teaching seventh-grade math, trigonometry and college credit calculus.

Marriages

Stephanie Frey ‘08 married Jim Harrison on July 2. They reside in Lincoln.
Tess Thayer ‘08 married Ryan Plummer ‘10 on June 11. Both are employed by Sidney Public Schools.

Deaths

Nelda Rose ‘31, Sturgis, S.D., died July 29.

Bobby Edelman ‘37, Merriam, Kan., died July 28.

Mary Borron Diercks ‘41, Gordon, died July 1.

Rita Westover ‘43, Harrison, died July 21.

Elaine Fisher ‘60, Rapid City, S.D., died Thursday, Aug. 18.

Max Marker ‘65, Las Vegas, Nev., died July 20.

Greg Lafler ‘71, Sidney, died July 27.

Kathy Stretch ’71, Fort Collins, died July 26.
